Screenrights has made a submission in response to the Federal Government’s Copyright Amendment (Access Reform) Exposure Draft Bill 2021.
Screenrights is largely supportive of the policy behind these reforms, but is concerned that the drafting of the Bill goes beyond the Government’s stated policy intention. Our specific comments on the Bill can be found here.
Screenrights remains committed to sensible reforms that improve access to copyright material for Australians without undermining rightsholders’ rights to receive equitable remuneration. We recommend that new drafting instructions be issued which more accurately reflect the Government’s policy and take into account the issues raised, then a fresh draft of the Bill be prepared for consultation with key stakeholders before it progresses further.
