Activity: a program to train undiscovered, diverse and talented screenwriters living in regional Australia with specific skills that meet industry requirements, delivered in partnership with Princess Bento (Princess Pictures’ animation vehicle) and Hoodlum Entertainment.
Outcome: After 20 projects (27 participants) were selected for a one-day workshop and 10 projects (15 participants) were then selected to further their participation in the initiative, the Discovering New Voices: Adult Animation initiative announced Jess Murray from Tasmania had won a four-week attachment with Princess Bento. From the 25 participants selected for the Discovering New Voices: Romantic Comedy workshop, ten projects were then shortlisted to go through a series of one-on-one development consultations with Hoodlum Entertainment executives. The process culminated in Hoodlum choosing Tracy Richardson from Myocum, northern NSW for a four-week placement in Brisbane. “This was an amazing opportunity for Screenworks, with the support of the Screenrights Cultural Fund, to collaborate with two of Australia’s leading production companies to bring new regional voices to the industry. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Screenrights and everyone involved with the Cultural Fund for their support of this initiative, and look forward to collaborating again in the future.” – Ken Crouch
