Screenrights Chair, Jill Bryant, today announced that Screenrights’ members voted overwhelmingly to ensure that the authorial sector will have a minimum of three seats at the Board table.
With over 95% of votes in favour of the proposed changes at the recent EGM, future elections will ensure that authorial positions will be chosen from the industry’s screen writers, directors and composers, or their representatives.
“The Screenrights Board has benefited greatly from the contributions of past and current Board Directors who have brought a broad understanding of the Industry. Our current Board has a strong and diversified balance of skills and experience, and this amendment will ensure this continues,” said Bryant.
“Screenrights is the appointed Society for Australia and New Zealand and whilst we have always had a New Zealand based Director on the Board, we wanted to ensure this is also guaranteed,” Bryant added. Members supported the proposal, together with some additional changes to the Screenrights Constitution made to modernise and enhance governance.
Members will be able to vote for the first of the Authorial Director and New Zealand Director candidates at the next Screenrights Annual General Meeting in October 2019. The updated Memorandum & Articles of Association including details of the necessary qualifications for each post will be available on the Screenrights website shortly.
