SCREENRIGHTS NEWS

Vale Georgia Blain

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of our friend and colleague, Georgia Blain.

Georgia worked with Screenrights for almost 20 years, from 1997 until last year. Georgia’s contribution to Screenrights was, of course, her outstanding writing. But with that professional talent came a wonderful sense of humour, a generous and open heart, a fierce intelligence and a passionate love for her family and friends.

Georgia passed away in early December from brain cancer, a battle she documented through articles in The Saturday Paper with generous candour and insight. Her last novel, Between a Wolf and a Dog, that references a similar illness, was published this year. She leaves behind a body of work that will live on in her true spirit.

Sadly, Georgia’s mother, Anne Deveson, has since also passed away after a long fight with Alzheimer’s Disease. Anne’s wonderful career as a broadcaster, writer and advocate for social causes made her a hero for many Australians. As a filmmaker, she was a Screenrights member since 1995.

Our thoughts and love are with Georgia’s partner, Andrew Taylor, their daughter, Odessa, and her family and friends.
