Screen Australia’s Brilliant Stories and Brilliant Careers have received a combined 452 applications – the most ever received for any funding program.
The programs are part of the Gender Matters initiative, which seeks to increase participation of women in the screen industry.
New and emerging creative teams applied for funding under Brilliant Stories, with all applicants satisfying the ‘Three Tick Test’, meaning three of four creative positions (producer, writer, director and protagonist) are female.
Brilliant Careers provides funding to support companies, industry organisations and guilds in generating sustainable screen industry careers for women, identify gaps in career development pathways for female creatives and support slates of projects and businesses that connect content to audiences.
The Gender Matters initiative was launched in late 2015 to boost the number of majority female creative teams that are funded by 2018. Successful applicants for Brilliant Stories and Brilliant Careers will be announce by the end of June 2016.
Screen Australia have uploaded a number of videos from their Brilliant Careers Symposium (held in February) and you can view them here.
