Dear Screenrights Member,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Board regarding the 2024 elections for the Screenrights Board about the nominees it has chosen to endorse in this year’s election process.
This year members will be electing three (3) General Director positions and one (1) Authorial Director – Composer position.
Board membership and succession is reviewed and discussed on an ongoing basis by the Board. An important element of these discussions involves the Board determining an overall preferred skills-set and ensuring diverse representation amongst directors. Following is the skills-set the Board believes is appropriate, considering the strategic and operational context for the organisation as well as the extent of current, and future, risks and opportunities:
Governance, strategic expertise, industry, knowledge, accounting and finance, legal, managing risk, digital transformation, understanding of government, managing people and achieving change, marketing and communications.
These skills are strongly represented on the Board and it is important that this depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise is maintained.
The Board acknowledges that the skills sought are held by many Screenrights members. The interest in the membership of the Board as evidenced by the significant number of candidates nominated is welcomed by the Board.
The Board has recently undertaken succession planning and endorsed a proposal to reduce the Board size over the next three years. The Board is also committed to having a spread of tenure. The Board believes this is crucial for balancing experience and corporate knowledge with the need for fresh perspectives and succession planning. At present the Board is weighted towards new directors and the Board views it as desirable to retain directors seeking re-election.
After reviewing all of the nominees and taking into account the depth and range of skills it requires the Board has asked me to inform members of the candidates it has chosen to endorse. The Board has chosen to endorse the following candidates for election:
General Director x 3
(1) Kim Dalton
(2) Georgina Waite
(3) Michael McMahon
Authorial Director – Composer
(4) Jonathan Carter
You can read the candidate details for each of the nominees listed above here.
It is a primary responsibility of the Screenrights Board to ensure that collectively the Directors provide the expertise required to establish and to achieve the organisation’s goals, and to respond confidently to future challenges on behalf of members and stakeholders. In casting your vote, you are encouraged to consider the skills-set and the Board’s preferred candidate list as set out above.
Thank you for working with us as we strive to ensure that the Board represents Screenrights membership effectively in the years ahead.
Should you have any questions about these matters, please contact me by email at secretary@screenrights.org.
Yours sincerely,
Natalie Buck
Company Secretary
